You know how when something goes wrong, things tend to snowball? It started with the flight on Wednesday. It continued with shopping on Thursday. I went to Sam's Club to buy some movies to take back to England with me. One of the benefits of living in two countries is all the membership cards you can take out of your wallet because you won't need them. And, of course, my Sam's Club membership card was -- well, not in my wallet. So, I went to the service desk and got a temporary pass with my membership number written on it. After shopping, I went to pay. First step in the check-out process is for the salesclerk to enter the membership number. Once, twice, three times. The number is no good. So, I go stand back in line at the service desk. "Could there be a digit missing from this number? The computer does not recognize it." Yes, there was a zero missing. Wonderful, thank you very much. So, I go stand in line again. The cash register drawer jams on the person ahead of me in line. I feel like giving the customer her change just so I can pay and leave, but I know that will likely cause more problems. They finally unjam the drawer and it is my turn. The number works now. Great. I pay with my debit card. All is good. But, wait, I got charged for "Finding Nemo" twice. I can either go get another DVD (why would I want two?), or get her to correct the sales ticket and refund my money. She can't do anything at the cash register, so now I have to go stand in line at the service desk. Again. I am now on a first name basis with most of the Sam's Club service staff. Buying a DVD shouldn't be so hard.
