Adjust those valves

Anticipating a ride to Houston on Saturday I spent Wednesday evening doing some maintenance on my motorcycle. According to the service manual the valves need to be adjusted every 8000 miles and the bike has 10,000 on it, so I thought I should check the valves because I am pretty sure they weren't checked at 8000 before I bought it. After removing the seat, tank, and a few bits of chromed plastic,

I was able to access the little "access" ports to inspect and adjust the valves.

I use the word "access" loosely because I'm not sure what is provided is truly access, but I guess it will do. The good news is that the valves didn't need any adjustment, so maybe they were done at 8000 miles. Or, maybe Honda is very cautious with their service recommendations.

I also swapped out the after-market exhaust pipes with the original stock pipes. After riding for a couple of hours on Sunday my ears were ringing, so I thought I might want a slightly quieter ride for the two-day trip down to Houston, around, and back. I posted a before and after picture below.

The trip was canceled because of the weather, which is probably just as well. We are experiencing a pretty good downpour with a fair amount of lightening to go with some wind and cool temperatures. It would have been a fine and miserable trip to tell stories about in the future, but I think I have enough stories about misery that I don't really need to add an additional one.
